- Like a kaleidoscope where the pattern takes shape to the tune of zombie-cha-cha, big band folk, instrumental hip-hop and then some Kurt Weill, Stravinsky and Peres Perado on top of that.

That's how Johan Lindström describes the music he wrote for Norrbotten Big Band during his time as the band's Composer in Residence 2020. It's sound art at play, and in all seriousness. Guitarist Johan Lindström is one of the most influential instrumentalists on the Swedish jazz scene. The new compositions for NBB are in line with Lindström's ability to tie together seemingly disparate musical idioms into an uncompromising whole.

Norrbotten Big Band is a modern big band with deep roots in the jazz tradition and a branching out into soul and funk as well as contemporary art music, for which they have a particular passion. The band has been nominated for several Grammys, including an international Grammy. Under the artistic direction of Joakim Milder, saxophonist, composer and professor of improvisation at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, the big band has created countless concert experiences at the intersection of different musical expressions.
